Interesting 'Misunderstanding'

Call it a communication gap or a basic misunderstanding. One fine day, my Wiziq inbox contains a mail- requesting me to conduct a FREE class because I am a Premium member.
Puzzled, I ask the student to explain the connection between the Premium Membership and the Free Class. And, to my surprise the student replied that she assumed that Premium Teachers are paid by wiziq to conduct classes. Now, that’s where I sighed.
I am not worried about the channelling of payment from this website. I am concerned about the general perception of any new/old student who joins this website. Do these learners know that the teachers are toiling hard for getting their attention and that too for free? I believe if we can communicate the operational mechanics of this website to the students, they’ll be more willing to join our paid classes.

So, my question is how do we do that? How do we fill this communication gap on wiziq?

Wow,
Anneliese RN I agree. There are surprisingly non-serious learners in the class. Probably, you are right about the perception of viewers of wiziq as a free learning website. But, I have noticed a slight improvement in the number of paid Public classes being conducted by other teachers. Let's hope for the best.
I'll try to amend my profile lol!

Anne, this Paypal problem is as acute as this 'misunderstanding'. Even my students in India prefer to pay directly through the banking route. Why don't you write to support@wiziq.com for including the other payment options? It is indeed, an important point.

I get this all of the time. People assume I a paid by wiziq. Perhaps, we can put it in our profile that we are taking time out of our busy lives to do a humanitarian service.

The other thing that I have found is that they come into the class and ask what the class is about? What? I thought I put a description of the class?

I think that we just have to educate them on proper etiquette and tell them to have the same manners in wiziq as they would in a real class.

But getting back to the "assuming we are paid" question. This is the fault of wiziq because they say it is a place were people can come learn for FREE. Therefore, when you try to conduct a paid class, most will not attend.

I get around this by posting paypal on my website and then holding private classes.

I have had to explain to my classes that just because I am conducting a free class does not mean I am giving them a cheaper product. But it is not the students fault they think this, it is the fault of wiziq. I saw the video in the "Offer a Course Link".

We must educate them as they come to class and/or put this misunderstanding in our profiles. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN OF THE UNIVERSE. THIS IS A FREE CLASS THAT I DO FROM THE KINDNESS OF MY HEART. I AM NOT GETTING PAID BY WIZIQ. IF YOU FIND THIS CLASS HELPFUL, DONATIONS ARE APPRECIATED..... (Something like that ... ) LOL

Very true my friend, huge misunderstanding.

ha ha - you are too kind! That's interesting Namrata - I hadn't realised students thought that - but I can see now that it is a problem. I also think payments are a problem because a) a lot of students don't have paypal, and don't know how to pay by credit card - ironically in countries where Wiziq is popular b) Euros (let alone British sterling) are not a payment option, which probably rules out a lot of my potential students. Sadly for me, I lose a big chunk of my payments to Paypal as soon as I cross borders anyway! Well, we kind people must keep going... Happy new year!
