what you want "wiziq" to do to make online learning more brilliant

I think this adage "Ask a customer" is orienting around me today :-). Having such brilliant teachers who have mastered the art overtime or were gifted with the style of teaching, we do not have to run around asking for "how we can be more better". I realize the answer is constant innovation but I am here talking of acceptable innovation that take our acceptability several notches up..

We can talk about anything that can make us much better than what we are right now. We can debate on what is it that we should be doing, our website layout, kind of students we need to have.

One thing that would make the virtual classroom much, much better is if the sharing of url's would work; they don't. It's sad since I have to show numerous short video clips (usually via YouTube) to demonstrate short events. I always have to organize myself around this and explain to the students (when they ask why) simply that the url's in WiZiQ don't work.

It would also be nice to be able to share desktop.

That's all for now. I hope that positive changes will come from the upcoming discussion and brainstorm session.

This might be going just a little too far for WiZiQ, but do you think it's possible that WiZiQ could ever get break-out rooms like Elluminate has always had?

Hi George,

I hope that the break-out rooms can be worked out. It's really some a lot of us have to just do without and work around the best we can, but it's certainly far from ideal. Most training of all types, whether they are live or not, require this kind of work.

I talked with Mr. Singh in North Carolina about five or six years ago when WiZiQ was just gettting started and he told me even then that it would eventually be included but so far, nothing of the kind. I've been told before too that there is a simple add-on that could make it possible. Maybe we can work to make it happen!

I'll add you to my Skype contact list and maybe we can talk sometime when our schedules permit.

Let's try again tomorrow gang. George, can you provide the link?

Perhaps you all knew this, but videos can be uploaded as follows: flash video - up to 50 MB, other video formats up to 100 MB. This is good news!

PS. At the time of this posting, the content page only shows 50 MB but I have been told that it will be updated soon.

My word on Kapil's innovative discussion:
Keep us updated on the new features being introduced on wiziq.

When the Dashboard got a new face, many teachers were unable to enjoy browsing the new look as much as I did. But, it was after some weeks that I realized there was a "My Favorites" feature as well.

So, what I am asking is an update column from the wiziq team informing all teachers/ students of all latest features being showcased on the platform.

Kapil, I'll hunt for more points in George's session. George, great job with the class!

One more request-
Could we have the Favorites option for our recorded classes as well? Many times, I have to browse through the entire list of the Past classes to find the class recording of a class on Grammar or Spellings. It would be really nice if on the page of the Past classes or the page of the old class itself, we get an option to add it to our Favourites.

Thanks

Kapil, Ben or I will post a class link just before the replacement class discussion. We will post it here at 7:30 AM New York time (GMT - 4hrs?)
Tuesday July 13th.

Ben, Kapil and I met today to discuss some of the structural problems with content library, class scheduling and such. Kapil promises to meet at least once a month for all of us to go over our concerns about functionality of the portal.

@Dean,
I currently am successful with the areas you are having problems with including desktop sharing. Wiziq now has a night tech available (Raj). He can help with our problems at a more convenient time for us Westerners you can also grab me on skype (ID = gmachlan) to get past some of your obstacles.

PS The new VC (due out next week) will be buggy a first but portends some great things for us all!

Sorry Kapil...

What is wrong with this picture? A key tech person at the greatest VC company on planet earth asking the community to write down their suggestions for improving the VC which is arguably the greatest format for conducting a lively discussion.

I challenge you Kapil and all readers to join me in an open discussion this coming Monday. Here is the class link:

Hi George, I'll have to catch the recording. We start Vacation Entrepreneur Week at Church on Monday July 12, 2010. I would really like to be a part of the discussion but our program starts at 8:00am.

My wish list is for a more organize way for storing and retrieving information from the Content Library.

I'll be listening for my Wish and I hope the wish comes true.

Also, I changed my logo to that of the juggler. I feel as if I am doing so many things but life is very exciting.

Take care,
Priscilla

@ Dean, there has been some discussion of that. There are others who wish that also. I believe that there are a few work-arounds, if you want to talk some time. skype = gmachlan

PS, sorry I missed your class today, arrived at the very end.

This was posted by Devon in the Project Management community. I am re-posting it here as I think it has some useful ideas.

Now is this in reference to how our classes may be organized on WiZiQ?

If so, this is of definite interest to me as a teacher. I currently have about 30 classes and the system is only organizing them according to date.
Let me briefly explain what I do.
I teach people how to "scope" court transcripts from home. Basically, we utilize a computer-assisted transcription (CAT) program to simply edit the transcripts. This is not transcription which is completely typing from an audio file.
There is plenty of work in this field but it does take at least three months to learn the basics.
Because Scoping Made Affordable (SMA) has students enrolling any day that they choose, I have students at various points within their studies.

There is a particular order by which the students should be beginning the classes and how they finish them.
So I would like to have the flexibility to put these in the correct order for myself to dispense the invitations in an easier fashion.
And since the SMA classes are private, I'm seeing that I can not list them under My Favorites.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to seeing what this group can do to make our jobs easier. :)
