Now students and teachers can follow each other on WiZiQ

The very important "Follow" feature has gone live on WiZiQ today. Students can follow teachers and get updates when a new learning object (public tutorial, test or class) is created by the teachers they follow. Teachers can build a reputation and find more student leads on WiZiQ by acquiring more followers.

All students and teachers are invited to share their experience with this new feature.

Yes Marcus, that's right.

Namrata, if students follow a teacher, they will get weekly updates on the public learning objects (tests, tutorials, classes) created on WiZiQ by that teacher. They would not need to change settings to activate it. However, if they do not want to receive further notifications, they can simply deactivate them by going to their mail notification settings.

Yes George, the updates will be aggregated in a weekly notification but it will not contain forum posts yet. Let's see how soon we can include discussions too.

That's great. What if the teacher wants to showcase the test/ content/ class as and when it is uploaded/scheduled? The followers get to see it after a week. By that time the class might be over!

I just happened to change my Account Settings. The Daily and Weekly options solve the purpose. Great job!

Yeah, I am really excited about the Follow up feature.
Here's one question from my side too. Will we receive regular updates on people we follow? If yes, do we need to change our Account settings to activate it?

I hope that there are not too many updates as that would tend to overwhelm a given student. Say once a week would be about right.
And, aggregated in one e-mail.

I am still not getting the nuances of this feature. Maybe a short class and discussion is in order?

Will it also list forum (communities) postings? I think that would be cool.

I definitely like this, it quickly allows one to asses their impact on potential students. I have yet to see a report as far as the people I am following. Is that activated yet?

We get invites already when a teacher opens a class and sends out an invite, I think the "follow" option could function the same. After each notice, the user could be allowed to either opt out of further notices or change to weekly updates. They do this with subscriptions to various site notices. So, yes, you might not get your content or class information out to everyone, but they will be able to choose to get notices or not.

WiZiQ could add a current content list on a teacher's profile like they do with recent classes taught or scheduled. This way you could opt out of following altogether and check a person's profile when you want to. I do this with forums because I don't like to get 20 updates when only 2 concern me.

I think it will develop into something where you get updates on people a person is following. If you are being followed, you won't have to keep inviting people to all your classes. You can concentrate more on getting new students, while the regulars will get updates.
