TV like video production on WIZIQ

by George Machlan

How 2 WIZIQ 405 TV video streaming with special effects.

Two weeks ago we demonstrated some very cool visual effects that looked like a TV production for a multimedia documentary. This application of WIZIQ features is not for the faint of heart. But, it may be a big part of the future for tech savvy dare devils. Pushing the limits of our virtual classroom by natures causes many undesirable side effects but it portends great possibilities. This class and discussion thread will be a permanent starting point for continuing the discussion.

After discovering this breakthrough application, my creative side went crazy. And many of you who saw it were excited too. It is time for us to share some of those ideas and also identify some of the structural barriers that WIZIQ may need to consider in future revisions to the classroom. This class will re-present some of the effects (as the recorded viewing does not replicate them) but primarily we will discuss ideas and problems with the potential uses in a given scenario.

I was going to hide these ideas due to fears that other virtual classroom portals would want to copy them and "steal our thunder". But, on second thought that would tend to deny us the open exchange that is needed to give these ideas a chance to grow. The only way for us to grow is to become a dynamic living organism. Not individual organs. If you have been holding back you opinions and ideas, please reconsider. Speak up anytime and everywhere. The only opinion that does not matter is the one that is not voiced!

George's list of notes:
User community development
Build a "frame of reference" for video stage, (I'll explain this one)
Build Icon sets vs requesting WIZIQ to build & SHARE
--------- import you own icons
--------- make avatars
--------- make student pics for virtual class activities
--------- make props for your and student manipulation
--------- make scenes for background to give context to props
--------- discuss Google Sketchup and Google Earth
--------- story boarding with uploaded scenes
--------- paper dolls.. create wardrobe for students to create avatar with face pic
--------- paper doll manican wire frame is several positions stand, sit, walk
--------- musical note sets
--------- mathematical equations
--------- anatomical body parts
--------- engine components for assembly (Ibrahim, this ones for you)
--------- language glyphs (e.g. Korean alphabet) (Marcus for you)

WIZIQ structural impediments
Slider bar conflicts - break out from bundled rights
---------- allows stage to remain still for prime camera angle
---------- allows for breakout groups to edges of whiteboard
Drawn objects remain individual entities/components
---------- allow user to group component sets for manipulating
Graph tool
---------- allow graph tool to draw and save for bringing into class
---------- give graph ability to show scale w/indexed digits
---------- alternate graph for musical notation
---------- as in plotting calculator, allow for auto-generated w/formula
Video screen reversed from intuitive
--------- allow toggle to reverse video stream for intuitive pointing
ICON sets
--------- rather than you building icons, build an icon generator that
----------users can use to create their own.
--------- create an online "warehouse" for sharing sets at defined scales
--------- build scene generator that would allow to scale photos to props
--------- Google Warehouse and Earth could be a plugin
Delete button
--------- only one function now, give additional e.g. to clipboard, fadeout
Save/print button
--------- allow teacher to load scenes and props and save as a set for
importing like a PPT but all items would be available from content library
--------- capture window view and save as PPT for later presentation/class notes
UPLOAD from desktop e.g. student photo
--------- force size and location (new whiteboard or toggle to grid)

Please bring you notes in a DOC format to class or place in comments here:

WizIQ featured this posting on its new blog page "Tweet Loves" http://www.wiziq.com/twitter/ because Kirsten Winkler was so impressed by the demo.

We are still waiting for this feature (streaming video to whiteboard) to be reintroduced.  Here is a pic giving a hint at what we did https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/JIiLGSMpQQQeNhBioDxMO9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
Over two years ago we changed to the new VC.  I have asked that we be allowed to buy the old platform for just this use.  "Q" our R&D guy (Gurjinder) knows that we hope to get it back.  I cannot readily explain the magic we achieved but I think it will be a "game changer" when we do.
