Seminar for teachers and students associated with www.wiziq.com

Many teachers are intrested to have a Seminar for the students and teachers on wiziq.com somewhere in India, so that we can discuss with each other and with wiziq team to make it more impressive. As you know, we are not much developed like developed countries
and a large mass of students do not know that they can learn online. How about that wiziq.com collaborate with different universities and colleges to expand their horizons of learning,
mean we can organise seminars in different universities and colleges around India to make the students aware about this new concept. For many people internet means chatting and making online friends. They do not know its judicial use like learning a lot sitting at home and polishing their career. But, I feel that wiziq must invite very active teachers and students to give ears to their views and ideas
so that wiziq team can get many heads to generate ideas to popularize this concept. How all the intellectual minds think about it?

Why limit it to Chandigarh? If we are prepared to teach online, let's get together online.
Pick up networking sites, form teams and get to spreading awareness. For instance, open Accounts on these sites, pass on ids to each other and particpate in discussions together.
We can list all this in the discussion Best Portal to find students

Yes I agree with the suggestion for arranging the seminar online. Earlier I used to offer two online courses - how to teach online and how to learn online. Each was organized as a four week course enrolling the teachers and students for these two courses. If desired I am ready to offer the platform (Moodle and content) With WIZIQ we can add the real time participation of experienced online teacher to share their experience interactively.

The evolution of elearning resulted in the fusion of synchronous and asynchronous mode of learning. In today's elearning space learners and teachers must be skilled to manage technological delivery of content and improve the effectiveness of internet enabled communication. Earlier when we were offering asynchronous elearning we found many of the conventional teachers faced problems while teaching online. The same is true with the learners. Many learners drop out of online courses due to inadequate online learning skills. Therefore, we made it mandatory for every online teacher and learner to undergo a rapid elearning course on online teaching and learning. At WIZIQ this becomes more relevant since the real time teaching is not only demanding but intriguing. The attempt to help and support the learners and teachers to manage the technology by WIZIQ is a welcome move. I will be happy to extend my expertise and experience for the online teaching and online training. It will be a great pleasure to work with the WIZIQ team.

Good idea but how to execute?

Good preposition Rajesh!

As put up by Kajal, The big Q remains "How To Execute'?

Based on your core idea, I propose that instead of going around to colleges and universities, which some may even deny to host such seminars from their brick and mortar premises, why not we have an online OPEN HOUSE sort of event on wiziq, similar to a physical seminar, and let wiziq create suites or chat rooms for interested teachers and advertise such events in local media to attract prospective students...

Any comments and modications to this proposal is welcome

Hi Everyone,

I like the idea of organizing seminars for all Indian students and teachers, however, I think that we should first inform people who are already online. So, we could get a series of seminars organized on WiZiQ online especially for Indian educationists, in which everyone can join in and learn about WiZiQ and its usage for education. The marketing team at WiZiQ will help promote these "webinars" online and reach out to more students and teachers.

In addition to reaching out to an already-online and net savvy audience, here are some more benefits of organizing these seminars online:

1. We can share available online courses on WiZiQ
2. Provide them with links to various Tests and Tutorials on WiZiQ.
3. Introduce them to our Teachers (Both Indian and International).
4. Invite people to join or schedule free/paid public classes.
5. Share data within minutes.
5. One-to-One interaction will be given by sharing mic controls individually with participants and their queries would be answered.
6. Participants will get the opportunity to explore WiZiQ's virtual classroom firsthand and upfront, and they will surely get a feel of joining and interacting in classes online.

Moreover, these seminars can be scheduled at a convenient time considering IST timings so that we get a high number of Indian participants. And already having expert Indian teachers with WiZiQ, we can easily get participants for these online seminars.

I am directly involved in marketing WiZiQ. Any teacher who wants to start this initiative is welcome to get in touch with me.

One particular point speaks loudest to me. An online seminar is almost a requirement as that is what we and WIZIQ are all about. As human beings we are hard wired for physical social contact and I think we need some of that within our WIZIQ community. If there were such a "real world" conference I think it must be web centric. This would necessitate a large projection screen for almost all seminar topics to be experienced as a pseudo online meeting.

Plus, I could then attend and I know that you wouldn't dare have a meeting without me, would you? (yes that was a test question which will count 90% of your final mark;-)

Dear Kajal and Amar,
Thank you very much for commenting on this discussion. Yes, I agree that it is little bit difficult to execute this idea but not impossible. The first step can be, get all the intrested teachers and students on one platform by organising a seminar in Chandigarh itself or somewhere else in India. The wiziq team can organise the seminar and invite the views of all the intellectual minds on this issue. And, I think it is not very difficult to organise such type of education seminar in different universities and colleges, specially in privately owend. When so many commercial companies can do, then why can't we?It's totally depend on the attitude and intiative of wiziq team. Also, the concept can be advertised in national and international media. But the promoters must be educationist, preferably teachers and students active on wiziq.com.

Dear Nihal,
Thanks for commenting on the topic. Will you please like to aprise me about the various other steps whcih can be helpful to popularize the online education.
by Rajesh Sharma posted on 06 January, 2010
Thanks Namarta and Vadivel. I don't mean the seminar only in Chandigarh and an online semiinar. The wiziq can organise seminar anywhere in India where all the intrested teachers and students can communicate with each other face to face and individual views can be invited to popularize this concept. Also wiziq's technical team can make learnt the gathering about the latest on wiziq. And combined efforts can be made to make it more useful to the learners and teachers.

We can offer tips on Methodology and how to include 2.0 tools in teaching. In this way, we are using the net to help others develop professionaly and we can do it through wiziQ. It is cheaper than going around and travelling. Marta Lerena

I can add to my previous comment that we can hold a sycronimous chat on elluminate or another site. To feel we are together. It is a matter or organization. Marta Lerena
We are organizing an annual online conference (February 5-7) on WiZiQ called CO10. We had one last year called CO09. It was very successful and brought a great deal of participants from universities around the world. You are invited to join as moderators and presenters.

Here are the recordings of last year's CO09. Please keep moving the arrows to go the next presentation.
