Heads up: New live classes interface and features on WiZiQ

by Harman Singh
Posted on 17 December, 2009

Everyone, I am pleased to announce that we are releasing an updated version of the classes feature (not the virtual classroom yet) by next week. I thought I will let you know before we actually release it. We have made a lot of improvements such as an improved class scheduling, easier invite and re-invite process and more. Here is a presentation that has a few screen shots:

Guys, I have a request: Please address me as "Harman", I am not used to being addressed in such a formal way :)
Mr. Singhal, just like yours, we have got several requests to bring these features in the ORG side of WiZiQ, but we have deferred it for now due to resource constraints. We offered the ORG side mainly because we got many requests from companies looking for the virtual classroom. We intend to build WiZiQ.com for an individual teacher to a certain extent, say until sometime next year before we start working on the ORG side again. And we will try to bring all the WiZiQ features there.
As for your the "no sign-up for students" feature to attend classes, we are working to bring that feature for WiZiQ premium members in late January. Premium members will be able to let their students attend the class without having them to sign up on WiZiQ. I hope that will serve the purpose.

Sure, anytime :) We are working on a lot of things - both improvements and new features. I will keep everyone posted on them through this community.

Mr. Singhal,

I am not sure if have seen WiZiQ for Organizations. You can buy one or more rooms here and use the Moodle module. You will not need to sign your learners on WiZiQ then.

Puneet, if you would like to get a demo of WiZiQ, please feel free to ask for it at support-at-wiziq-dot-com.

Great!! Mr Harman Thanks for all these upcoming features. Few were required badly. I am sure wiziq will become number one portal of education in the world.Good luck to you and your team.

I could very well be missing something, but as moderator, I don't see an option to make comments to my own recorded class. It would be nice to respond to others who have commented or provided feedback. Actually, I'm not sure having "comment" and "feedback" sections are warranted. So feedback can be displayed on the "class page" - which I can't see - and comments are automatically listed on the class page? If anything, moderators should have the option of adding "feedback" or "comments" whatever, to the teacher profile with possibly a link to the particular class. This could serve as a "testimony" of sorts that would help promote the teacher more than "embedding" it in a class which would likely have less of an effect on individual promotion.

Just a thought.

By the way, I do appreciate the individual stats that are now available after each class is recorded. It seems that this would especially be useful to those teachers charging for their classes.
by Benjamin Stewart posted on 16 January, 2010
I notice that there are five recorded classes that appear under each teacher profile. Is there a way to view all recorded classes per teacher?
by Benjamin Stewart posted on 16 January, 2010
Thanks for the response Sid. The link you provided helps.

Hi Andrea,

don't be too hard to the programmers. I'm a web developer myself and I know how hard it is to get it all done right :)

Anyway, I appreciate that kind of service that WizIq provides for free and I know how hard it must be to keep it up to a good state just with the little income they get with a few premium users. I know my price range and I can say, that I never could do such a system for a less than an at least five-figure number (in US-Dollars).

Bugs are always annoying, but as far as I see enough buggy software for the programs that I pay for, I understand that it takes time to get all things right for a free service.

Happy new Year
Marian

I like the new interface and features. It's a bummer that WizIQ removed the free 3 private recordings from the free accounts. Maybe it's just a glitch in the implementation becaus I did not see any announcement that this policy of having 3 free recordings has been changed lately.

Merry Christmas!
It's a pleasure to look at the new interface. All those who are wondering what I am talking about. Click on "My classes", let the Web Page open and enjoy the improved version.
My heartiest congratulations to the wiziq team and I humbly thank you for the X-Mas present.

Good luck!

Sounds like an EDUKWEST interview to me :) Some very nice features in there!
Dear Mr. Harman Singh,
I am already aware of WiZiQ for Organizations and have used and had configured WiZiQ Virtual Classroom Module in Moodle. I just wanted to know whether new features will added to WiZiQ for Organizations also or not. In addition to this whether a new module for configuring in Moodle with additional (new) features will be released or not.
Thanks and regards,

Dear Mr. Harman Singh,
Your new features are highly appreciable. We believe that you will be able to bring WiZiQ Virtual Classroom Module in Moodle also with new features in which registration from the participants' side is not required. We are sure WiZiQ will definitely achieve high growth and popularity among teachers / trainers / Consultants and students / participants and in educational field. Best wishes from our side.

My 1 cent comment on the use of:
Name Surname Internet Standard of use.
Since the starting of Internet the standard practice is:
Use Only the name.
If name and surname are used…
The Surname should underlined In order to easily recognize it.
Barack Obama
Possibly apply the standard English rules:
First Name second Surname
Barack Obama
Also good practice is to have the surname bold
Barack Obama
To your colleague I recommended many time to underline the Surname.

hello Marian
1+1=2 not about 2. It is no matter of money dollar and cents.
I am 100% sure that you will not provide untested program, is matter of mentality and preparetion.
for me is not a free service.
Very important are the time dedicated to the class and presentation, the value of the presentation and the lost or face for the presenter for me is what count.

Guten Rutsch! 2010

Dear Marian
There toooooooooooooooo many of this " glitch " after the story of " new interface " I got really a lot of frustration and dissatisfaction. The provider staff did not a good job. They are very primitive e superficial.

To Harman and the WiZiQ team, I think the model looks fantastic. You all are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the good work!!!

@Puneet
It must be an "Indian thing" as I had a hard time getting use to the logic of the platform. I will say that every step is easy and simple but at last count there was 373 simple steps (OK so I may have exagerated, you will get use to that from me;-) to be fully WIZIQ empowered.

Welcome back, Stephi! What wisdom or new ideas do you bring back to the village from your travels?
by George Machlan posted on 28 December, 2009
Andrea,
I viewed the recording and note that several people were able to attend and interact so this classroom did open and therefor salvageable. While any bug and particularly relaunches can be frustrating and a "show stopper" one must always think in contingencies. I would advise you to seek the learning opportunity here and share, as you are known for, the innovative work-arounds available.

Almost every class I run, I immediately assign an attendee the job of assistant. They immediately are given writing and mic controls this covers 80% of problems at my end. Further, all of my regulars know how to set up a private class and know that they can open an alternative class in case of my absence. This is what I do in most cases when I arrive at a class when the teacher either does not show up or is having technical difficulties. We simply leave a note where we went and the link in the original class chat box.

Periodically there will be the "perfect storm" which may have been your unfortunate situation last Wednesday as even the WIZIQ staff presented class had problems getting started. It is sad that none of your students were aware of their options to "save the day". I look forward to the day when we have true multiple moderator capability within WIZIQ. But until then consider the contingencies available and be encouraged as those who know you (as evidenced in the chat by students in your absence of that fateful class) look beyond one unfortunate event. They spoke highly of you and accepted that it was simply a glitch.

Sincerely,
George

I have already talked with Sid about how hard it is for us, as class owners, to access some of the information. It is all retrievable but requires several steps to find it. I think they are re-thinking some of those changes they made.

I am sure that they have a good reason for what they did, it is just not apparent to me yet. Possibly it is in relation to future releases that we are not privy to. They will be releasing a new VC (geek speak for Virtual Classroom) pretty soon.

Thanks team wiziq. This is like an early Christmas present. It will make some of my class setup tasks much easier.

This option is currently not available in the teacher profile but a link on the teacher profile to view all past public classes by that teacher can be looked at.

If you want to view all the past public classes of a teacher then just replace your name with the name of the teacher in the following link:
