How to access embedded video files.

by Robert McCall posted on 02 November, 2009

Hi, I'm trying to download an mp4, and mp43 file but I get a red message saying file type isn't accepted. So, I embedded the video file but it doesn't show up in my virtual class content folder.

Just wondering how to get these audio and video files into the classroom. I can't use you tube because the video file is 20 minutes, so I tried using the url from screencast (where I store my video files) but that didn't work either. Any sugguestions please. Many thanks.

You can change your youtube account type to allow for larger files. The last time I did this they called it director. You may also consider breaking your video into smaller files prior to uploadng.

Currently there is a rather small video size limitation at WIZIQ so it won't be worth your while to try to preload there either. Ben and I have had some luck with streaming through the web browser feature on the Wiziq platform but it is not a very good alternative yet.

See some of thetipsand tricks from our group discussions. We describe them at the blog www.myeslfriends.blogspot.com meeting 101 and 103 were particularly on video.

Also don't be bashful using the live help at wiziq, they really do want to help you be successful.

PS I looked at your website. It is looking very professional.

Hello Robert. There seems to be several things going on with what you are trying to do. If you ever want to do desktop sharing via Skype, I'd be more than happy to walk you through video sharing using WiZiQ. If all you want to do is share a YouTube video in a WiZiQ class, this can be done.

Your question made me curious though, so what I just tried to do was embed content in WiZiQ, which worked, then tried to bring the embedded content (as opposed to uploaded content) into a class, which did not work, strangely enough. So as it stands, the best way to stream YouTube video into a class is through accessing the video option while conducting your class.

As I´m not real sure where WiZiQ is on their R&D with regard to video and internet sharing, you're finding that this option is still quite limited. It's my view that users ought to be able to merge all content that is uploaded to WiZiQ (stand-alone files AND embedded content) into their WiZiQ classes.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I didn't realise I could upgrade my you tube account, I'll go an check that out.

I've tried playing the video's from my website but it's not a pleasant experience for me or the students. I use desk top sharing with Skype .... which is okay for a one on one class. I'm a bit worried about having a group class here actually because the last time I did that the audio was horrible, but I'll give it a go again I guess.

I like the community here at WIZIQ but there are definitely better web-conferencing options.....like eluminate, adobe, dimdim. At least that's my experience.

I'll go and visit myeslfriends George...by the way thanks for the comments about my old website, I'm building a new one now, which integrates a podcast, blog, ecommerce, chatroom, and links to free classes....it's not finished, but you can visit and offer comments at http://kiwicarioca-esl.com

Cheers
Robert
