About time for Linux (Ubuntu) support

So far, I've only used WizIQ to teach Visual Basic (VB) and this is a Windows-only platform.

As we know, WizIQ only supports screen-sharing (or more precisely, proper functionality) only on Windows.

Most of my teaching is on Linux (Ubuntu) like PHP, C/C++ and so on. So I think it's about time WizIQ seriously considers supporting this platform. And I feel that Ubuntu/Debian is about the most popular alternative to Windows.

I'd like to know if any of you have the same thoughts...

Excellent resources, Marcus - thank you!
Here is one from me - also platform-independent (as it works in your students' browsers, they don't need to install anything but the sharer needs to install a small snippet): https://join.me/

I too think WizIQ and Linux (Ubuntu at least) should get along.  I began requesting this to WizIQ years ago, and still feel the same.  WizIQ should be fully functional in Ubuntu, including screen-sharing!

I have used Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Edubuntu with Wiziq.  I also have Xubuntu on my netbook now, Lubuntu is not worth it and I recommend people stay away from it.  The main thing in Kubuntu was that Asian fonts were not supported, however, I could still copy and paste into the chat room and whiteboard without problems.  I just couldn't see it there, but I could see it in the area I copied from.

This is real close to perfect for me.  I use other programs in Windows which are not as useable in Linux, so I still toggle between the two.

As for screen sharing, I don't understand why people would need Wiziq for that.  I understand Skype has it, and here are a few others http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/7-easy-screen-sharing-and-remote-access-tools-all-free/

I never got into the screen sharing stuff anyway.  For me, I think they should focus on delivering audio, pictures, and text on all platforms possible before embarking on video elements.

I am doing my research because I am tired of waiting for windows and it seems ubuntu is way ahead of what I tested about 8 years back. Then again the compatibility issues as we can see in this thread ... they still seem to be issues. But I have seen something new (to me) called VirtualBox according to a video I saw in youtube it is straightforward to have Windows running inside your ubuntu, seems they recommend 1Gb of RAM, but that is not too hard I dont think.

Any thoughts on going this route?

@Marcus it's good to know you use the Ubuntu family as well. But as for me, screen-sharing is a must. And if Skype were an option, I'd certainly go for it. But no, I cannot do that. It's not practical to have students log-in to both Skype and WizIQ at the same time.

Why screen-sharing... For example, I need to explain how I write a certain program while actually doing it. So my students need to see what I'm doing. So for my work screen-sharing is a definite requirement. And no, this is not a recorded video. If that were the case, I'm better off with YouTube :)

So, we really need this feature on WizIQ (on Ubuntu, at least).
