What word processing program are you using?

Hey Marcus,
 I'm using  Microsoft word 2007.

@  M.I.Z , I'm not asking about how to create a table of content. If you read my question closely, you will get my point. I only have an issue putting my document together ( Front matter page + Main document) as a unit using both Arabic and Roman numerals. My prof. wants me set up my research paper in MLA style using Microsoft word 2007 or 2003!! But, I'm not good at using Word processing programs. And for the link about the numbering I tried to follow similar steps before but It did not work! anyways, Thanks!

Hey Konark,

Thanks a lot for the links . Honestly, I'm running out of time and I'm afraid this preparation systems may mess up the whole thing I've done.

Hi Lara,

I would recommend you to go with a document preparation system like http://www.latex-project.org/ .

This would give lots of in-built features, and is not very difficult to start with too.

The official website itself gives it nice neat and clean documentation to start with :

Let me know , if you require any further help for the same .

After you have inserted the roman numerals, switch off numbering and when you have to insert arabic numerals, start the numbering again. A small box will appear if the numbering continues through which you can select to restart the numbering.

Hello LaRa k, this is honestly child's play.

Unfortunately, I don't have Office 2007 as I work with Libre Office. Anyway, I don't want to reinvent the wheel by writing about this.

But here are a few tips...

1. The easiest way to create a contents table is to use the built-in features of Word. But these feature (in my opinion) give you lesser control - and I'm not going explain that here :)

2. A good way to create a table of contents is to use a table. But this method (although gives you better control with editing and formatting) does NOT do the automated page numbering for you on the content page. So this is something you'll have to do your self.

3. As for renumbering the pages with Roman and Arabic numbers, just set the option to START RENUMBERING and change the numbering format. Here's a link which I feel may be helpful to you.

I'm on a hectic schedule these days so I'm afraid I can't take the time to write a tutorial for you at this moment. I hope these tips help.
