Teacher Brand Metrics/ Teaching Business Success Parameters

Establishing yourself as a Teacher in the Global Learning Marketplace is almost the same as establishing a brand. Brands are not built overnight [or they could be if you have obscene amount of money for advertising]. However, you need to know if you are on the right track. How can you do that? I believe you need to keep multiple goals at different stages of establishing yourself as a teacher/ edu entrepreneur. The purpose of opening this discussion is to come up with some metrics/ parameters we can use to track our progress and whether we are doing well. I would think that each story would be different, but there could be some patterns which are global.

Some of the metrics I can think of are:
1. Number of queries received for teaching
2. Number of people registering/ attending my free classes
3. Number of people registering/ attending my paid classes
4. Number of people writing about me [Twitter, Facebook, Blogs etc.]
5. My Profile/ Blog Google Page Rank [and probably number of pages linking back to me]
6. Maybe, it might make sense to track number of recording views, content views/ downloads and test attempts too.

What else do you think one should focus on tracking in the initial stages of establishing ones own teacher brand?

Hi Puspita:

Thanks for your comment.

I think [1] Number of repeat students in your classes, is very important as is [2] Average number of students in your free classes.

How would you measure [3] and [4]?

Thanks

Dear Vikrama,

Point 3 cannot be measured and it is based on perception of students. Also I want to clarify quality of teaching is not only depth of knowledge , but a complete package of contents, context , relevance, presentation etc. In Online teaching , even clarity of voice can be a quality differentiator.

Point 4 is an interesting perspective. Here a online teacher is like a company which allows working from home. It gives a confidence to the students that you are reachable in emergency. That goes a long way to create a brand. But I am not sure how to quantify it.

Dear Vikrama ,

Following are the points that i could think of
1) Number of repeat students coming to your classes.
2) The students / teacher ratio in your free classes :)
3) Quality of teaching amidst other teachers in the same domain
4) Excitement among your offline students , due to your online presence

The immidiate challenges in online teaching are trustworthiness and imbibing a confidence among the students that you are serious and here to stay. In online teaching the teacher has to establish two things. One, you are a good teacher . Two , students can learn online. I think the second challenge is sometimes a more difficult one and will be accepted over time.

By the way , in my case, Online branding has created a very good impact in the minds of my offline students and converting or complimenting my offline students with online classes is what i am working on now.
